NZCS: North Auckland Railway Line Rebuild Project

The historically significant Northern line between Auckland and North Auckland NAL, parts of which date back to 1876, requires a major rebuild to enable it to handle the demands of modern heavy rail freight and hi-cube container traffic.

Project Details

At various times Boss Attachments have had up to 8 Antraquip milling heads operating on the widening and track lowering on the line’s 13 tunnels.

The major benefits on this project :

  • Job completed without any issues
  • Minimal vibration on the existing structures
  • Ability to carry out both lowering and detailed soffit milling operations with 1 tool
  • Ability to work right up to existing tunnel foundations when lowering without any compromise to the structural integrity
  • Ability to trench in rock not able to be ripped with a 40t excavator single pick
  • Backup and industry knowledge transfer from years of experience from the parent company in the USA
